From Novo Rio Bus Terminal in Rio de Janeiro: Take the bus Fácil ou Única to Petrópolis at the main bus station called Rodoviaria Terminal Novo Rio. Timetable: during the day, each 15 minutes, during the night (until 11:00PM)each 30 minutes. It takes around an hour to arrive in Petrópolis.

From Tietê Terminal in São Paulo: Take the Salutaris bus to Petrópolis at the main bus station, called RODOVIÁRIA Tietê. This terminal station is inside the the Tietê metro station. Just go straight when you leave the metro. Timetable: every day at 11:00PM - on mondays an extra bus at 9:00am and on fridays an extra bus 4:30pm. It takes 6 hours to arrive in Petrópolis.
